MAYA is the research-based project that intertwines the scientific history of German and Swedish twin studies with personal testimonies from twins. through an open call, pairs of twins were invited to share childhood memories that they had confused with each other. these memories were channeled through the fictional character MAYA, who figures as a vessel for exploring how personal memories shape - and destabilize - identity. the project reflects on data collection, identity dissolution, and ownership from a place of disbelonging - asking what happens when personal memories seem to belong to someone else.
the memories are based on contributions from the artists themselves and fellow twins rebecca & georgia, lauren & morgan, anaëlle & alexia.
